Re Hiding the Hills
Context of comment:Dessie1
The Highest 100 list doesn't contain any Munros. The Munros are specifically a list of 3000 ft Scottish mountains created by Sir Hugh Munro in 1891. We do have a list of 900s which for Ireland happens to be the same list as the list of 3000 footers.
Message:The reason for not including all the 900s is that some of the 900s while they have height have little else. For example if you list all summits by height you will include say the two Knockbrinneas, which are little more than a spur of Beenkeragh, or Carrignabinnia which is a bump on the Galty ridge, or Ben Bury which is a bump between the brilliant Mweelrea and the exciting Ben Lugmores.

So it was decided to set the prominence requirement for the 100 Highest some years ago to 100m This means that anything included must look like an independent summit not a subsidiary peak. It also has the serious advantage of increasing the number of mountain areas containing a "Highest 100" from 21 to 33 so that they are spread more evenly over the island.

All lists are compromises however overall we reckon this is the best balance.
