GPS elevation
Context of comment:GPS vertical accuracy is not as reliable as for horizontal position. You can easily record a gap of 50m (+/-164 feet). If your GPS has an altimeter, the result can vary and it depends on how the user set up his device before the walk. Message:Garmin BaseCamp software is able to build the profile for the route you are planning. It works on a map with elevation contours. Maybe the algorithm below could help :
Compute elevation contour, find all points on elevation contours crossed by the track and apply your current algorithm for gain and loss height additions. |
