Tracks - Automatic Calculation of Ascent
Context of comment:While we are on the subject of Tracks, may I mention a point of concern? My Track 1511 (Owenglin Circuit) would have involved actual ascent "on the ground" of circa 1700 metres. The automatic calculator shows ascent at 875 metres. Message:Is it possible that the fact that I switched off my GPS while not moving on a couple of occasions interfered with the calculations? The switch offs did not interfere with the other functions. For example, the duration and distance appear be be spot on. I had to switch off on one occasion to change batteries. Additional points:The Tracks addition deeply enriches the educational and community aspects of this site. I would urge members to test the add-on Track features available by drawing down the two menus at the side of the Map. I am thrilled with the ability to show shading and contours. This is moving the site to the very forefront of the emerging technology. A big thanks to Simon and all who sail with him on this one! NB Walking World Ireland is moving into the same territory.
