GPS
Hi thisbliss. I enjoyed reading your post on Binevenagh. I understand that there are very good GPS units available that display maps. I have read other forum posts on the subject and the GPS units appear very advanced. I recently looked at a Garmin Oregon 400t which is the latest in their series of expensive but amazing handheld GPS units.
The problem with my etrex is that it will literally take you "straight there". It will lead you in a straight line over any cliff, into any lake or through any other obstacle. I know it is possible to plot a route on a computer and export it to the etrex but I have never done this. I would like to get one of the units that display OS maps. Until then my GPS will continue to be the lesser used item next to map and compass!

Visited in 2014. There's a sandy beach and a solid pier with slipway and a picnic table facing the mainland. The road from the pier all the way thru the village is a robust concrete one, but it's ...

Surprisingly Donegal islands have a very good mobile internet reception, sometimes better than in an office in Dublin.

Now living furth of Scotland and getting to know the Irish hills. If you come across a Scottish hill Walker with dodgy knees and walking sedately, stop and say hello.

I did kayak to the island in 2014. There is a slipway facing the mainland. Lot's of ruined houses. Walking is decent as the island is flat but in places ground is uneven and overgrown, there are o...
