Walk for MountainViews members and friends
SCAVENGER WALK 12 - A SLIEVE LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN

Saturday May 28th South-West Donegal

The twelfth of these popular bi-annual (they will be again, honest!) walks.

Based in Killybegs Co.Donegal, we meet on the Saturday morning for a day’s hike along the astonishing Donegal coast.

No charge for the walk. Arrange your own accommodation in the Killybegs area and any matters of insurance etc. (Please note that the MountainViews site is not directly associated with this walk, and that the organisers have NO liability for the safety of participants).

An opportunity to experience the magic of the Donegal coast and the cameraderie of “The Scavvy”.

SCAVENGER WALK 12 – SATURDAY MAY 28TH

Start 10am

Route:

Start/Finish Lower Bunglass car park, GR G57130 75560

The walk commences by walking up the road to the terminal car park with its breathtaking view of the cliffs. From here we will follow the path along the edge above the Eagle's Nest to a steady plod up Cnoc Ramhar, before tackling/avoiding the exciting section over Kerringear. This leads in short order to the south-east top of Slieve League, from where it is a lovely airy (and easy) promenade over One Man's Pass to the summit. We then retrace our steps to the first top, before descending via the Pilgrim's Path and a road walk back to the start.

The car park can be accessed by following the R263 westwards from Killybegs as far as Carrick, then turning left and following the conspicuous signage towards the cliffs.

There are actually two car parks, one on either side of the road. Small building on right, couple of portaloos (probably) on left. Gate (usually shut) just after this point. NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE CAR PARK AT THE END OF THE ROAD.

Please copy this into Word doc and save it (and print it) – it will save you tracking it down again.

We expect duration to be around 6 hours at around a slower B pace.

A venue for post-walk drinks/analysis will be agreed on the day, but the Scavvy Meal will be at the Fleet Inn in Killybegs at 8:15pm.

Thereafter to out and about in Killybegs for craic agus ceol.

We look forward to meeting up with all our Scavvy friends but particularly new Scavvies, so do please come along.

Any questions, simply get me via the messaging service on MountainViews and hope to see you at Scavvy 12.

And for anyone wondering what the One Man's Pass at the top of the mountain (which must be crossed to gain the summit) is like, here's a video of a three-legged dog crossing it.

Topped Mountain: Short & simple

A simple little Minion to climb (the name Topped 'Mountain' is a bit of a stretch). A gravel path & steps from a carpark will see you reach the top in about 15 minutes, and you won't even need you...

A fine hill with a well defined summit and great views. Plenty of parking spots along the R254 directly to the south of the summit. From there it's a relatively simple 1km climb to the top.
