OS Benchmark? Directional arrow? (Expand pics)
Mystery object on the Galtees?
I took this photo 2 weeks ago (May 08) of this marker stone which is located in the saddle to the East of Galtybeg (R89476 24164) next to a stump of a wooden post. I was told before that it was an old benchmark from the time when the Ordnance Survey first mapped the country. It is basically 3 small arrows which have been cut into the rock to form an arrow. Is it a benchmark? Is it a directional arrow showing North? How old? I wonder if anyone else knows anything about this object or perhaps have seen similiar objects on other mountains?

Robber's Pass Hill: Minor heathery lump. Overcivilised and underwhelming.

This oddly named hill is more a very minor heathery bump incorporated into the system of tracks laid out by the Wicklow Mountains National Park. It can be reached from any of the western car-parks...
