Walk for Mountainviews members and friends
SCAVENGER WALK 11 – COMERAGH HEAVEN

Saturday August 30th Comeragh Mountains Co Waterford

The eleventh of these popular bi-annual walks.
Based in Cahir Co.Tipperary, we meet on the Saturday morning for a day’s hike in the beautiful Comeragh Mountains.

No charge for the walk. Arrange your own accommodation in Cahir and any matters of insurance etc.

An opportunity to experience the magic of the Comeragh Mountains and the cameraderie of “The Scavvy”.

SCAVENGER WALK 11 – SATURDAY AUGUST 30TH

Start 9.30am

Route:

Start/Finish Nire Valley Carpark, GR S27681 12887

The walk begins with an easy amble up to the Windy Gap along a shallow glacial valley to the west of Knockanaffrin. Here we swing west on a high contour track under Carrignagower taking us into the Coum of the Iarthar Loughs under the Boola Pinnacles. We will ascend the Coums west side and continue to Crottys Rock. Then its on to Fauscom, the Comeraghs Highest point, and Carrignagower. Walkers can then choose a) Descend to the Windy Gap or b) Continue to the 3 Coumfeas descending via the sharp narrow edge of Coumfea West. The group will split accordingly, each with a leader and remeet at the Nire Valley Carpark.

Nire Valley carpark can be accessed:

From Clonmel.
Dungarvan Road to Ballymacarbary. Take a left at Maoloids Pub, bearing E to Birchalls bridge (concrete with white/black metal work railings) turn right at the bridge and follow the road to its end passing the Nire Valley Church.

Small granite walled carpark. Park inside or on road.

Please copy this into Word doc and save it (and print it) – it will save you tracking it down again.

We expect duration to be around 7 hours at around a slower B pace.

We meet at the finish of the walk, at Maoloids Bar, Ballymacarbary at circa 5pm and thereafter to our various accommodations, to return to a restaurant(tba) in Cahir for the Scavvy Meal at 7.30pm.

Thereafter to out and about in Cahir for craic agus ceol.

We look forward to meeting up with all our Scavvy friends but particularly new Scavvies, so do please come along.

Any questions, simply get me on jackill@mountainviews.ie and hope to see you at Scavvy 11.

At today's date, we now have 18 mountainviews members and friends - and counting - coming to Scavvy 11.

Topped Mountain: Short & simple

A simple little Binnion to climb (the name Topped 'Mountain' is a bit of a stretch). A gravel path & steps from a carpark will see you reach the top in about 15 minutes, and you won't even need yo...

A fine hill with a well defined summit and great views. Plenty of parking spots along the R254 directly to the south of the summit. From there it's a relatively simple 1km climb to the top.
