"Excellent Conditions from Friday" from CaptainVertigo Contract pics
Picture: Excellent Conditions from Friday (Contract pics)

Southern Comeraghs: Friday?
Friday will be a cold, dry, bright day with sunny spells and very light winds, just a few showers near some coasts. After a frosty start temperatures will rise to between 5 and 8 degrees in the afternoon, highest in some coastal districts. Very frosty again on Friday night
I am currently studying the southern Comeraghs which run from Carrignagower to Coumaraglin and which comprise seven Vandaleur-Lynams of which 4 are Arderins and 1 (Fauscoum) is in the Highest 100. Would it make sense to attempt all seven on a mid winter's day? Where do you think I might start? If the day proved frosty would it be difficult, for example, to drive up to the car parking spaces on the road that traverses the spur SE of Coumfea (to the south of the Mahon river)? How are conditions underfoot generally on the plateau? Presumably, considerably better in frosty weather. Are there any access issues if one takes the road west from just south of Ballykilmurry Bridge to join the forest tracks at the base of Coumaraglin ? Are parked cars robbed regularly in this area? I would welcome any advice you might care to give. PS Our new television allows us to see YouTube videos: I watched Gerry McVeigh's Comeragh video in full blazing colour ( http://youtu.be/mBSd69wCjoM). It was just magnificent!
