New fence blocking Cnoc an Bhráca
Hi, Climbed up the turf cutters path from the Gap of Dunloe with a plan to climb Cnoc an Bhráca but were confronted by a new fence blocking the way. We (wife, daughter (11) & son (7)) did initially find a way under the fence but weren't sure if it would prevent us getting up the aforementioned mtn. So we found another spot where we could get through & passed back out..... When reaching the point where the track dries out & starts zig zagging up we found ourselves on the wrong side, the barbed wire is taught & fence brand new with no safe way across it. This fence runs the centre of the ridge line between the top of the turf cutters path to the bottom of where it starts to climb & then cuts right at an oblique angle where it climbs steeply. We made enquires later in the tourist office in Killarney & it was the first they had heard about it, they are also gonna make enquires, also the Pat Falveys shop was closed. This was on Tuesday29th Oct, today (Thur 31st Oct '13) we were back & mentioned it in the coffee shop who hadn't heard either... They did mention a recent sale of the land on that side of the Mtn though.. Anyone??

Visited in 2014. There's a sandy beach and a solid pier with slipway and a picnic table facing the mainland. The road from the pier all the way thru the village is a robust concrete one, but it's ...

Surprisingly Donegal islands have a very good mobile internet reception, sometimes better than in an office in Dublin.

Now living furth of Scotland and getting to know the Irish hills. If you come across a Scottish hill Walker with dodgy knees and walking sedately, stop and say hello.

I did kayak to the island in 2014. There is a slipway facing the mainland. Lot's of ruined houses. Walking is decent as the island is flat but in places ground is uneven and overgrown, there are o...
