Breaking Trail near Djouce (Expand pics)
Snowtime!
We took a group of scouts up to Djouce in Wicklow on Saturday. We didn't make it to the top due to increasing difficulty negotiating the snow. It was up to about 2 feet in places at 550metres altitude. We were the first to 'break trail', and several other walkers took advantage of our hard work and followed our trail. They gave up when we did, and told us we had carved a useful trail, especially after the footbridge above Powerscourt Waterfall. (we started in Crone Wood). With continued snow showers since Saturday I'd say the snow is even deeper, especially if you can get up towards the summit. Please bear in mind the usual warning about appropriate gear, good navigation skills etc - when the snow falls you wouldn't know which way you were facing!
