MI defines Mountaineering "including hill walking, rock climbing, rambling, bouldering and alpinism."

So walking and climbing are a sub set of mountaineering. You are, of course, free to (incorrectly) define it otherwise.

Representing a wide range of mountaineering activites gives MI more clout and there is a lot of common ground between them.

You seem to imply that ML is ignoring submission about hill walking. I think that is best taken up with the editor as he may well have had good reason for doing so. Moaning about it in a vague way on the internet probably isn't very productive. Just FYI the climbers also moan that there is too much focus in MI on walking (even thought rock climbers are very much in the minority).

I feel like I'm missing alot of the background to this post...

Surprisingly Donegal islands have a very good mobile internet reception, sometimes better than in an office in Dublin.

There's a salty tidal lake on the island.

Now living furth of Scotland and getting to know the Irish hills. If you come across a Scottish hill Walker with dodgy knees and walking sedately, stop and say hello.
