Deer Grass
Simon - the plant in your photo is one of the most widespread, and often dominant, species on the bogs and wet heaths of the Irish mountains, and is particularly prominent at this time of year when the leaves take on their deep autumn colours. It is the deer grass (Trichophorum germanicum), which despite the name is actually a sedge rather than a grass. This species always grows on peat, and occurs in a range of situations, but becomes particularly dominant on flat or gently sloping areas of bog at moderately high altitudes.

Topped Mountain: Short & simple

Crockmulroney: Good summit for Carn-baggers
Colin Murphy a week ago.
A fine hill with a well defined summit and great views. Plenty of parking spots along the R254 directly to the south of the summit. From there it's a relatively simple 1km climb to the top.
