Dangerous Rebel Cave
Thanks for the advice and the accurate GPS reading for the Rebel Cave. We parked up at T08096 92775 and made a direct ascent of Mullacor, mainly along the forest tracks, this was all fine, even the stretch of open country after the forest, the only boggy patch was the summit itself. Nothing too untoward or unexpected from here to Lugduff, from where we took a pretty direct route towards the Rebel Cave. This was very easy going initially, but hit some very wet patches about half way their. With the GPS finding the cave was easy enough, to have stood on the ground of patriots of the past! Didn't see the MV badge, but I had removed my head torch from the bag earlier in the week! From here we made a direct descent through the rock and fern covered steep slopes, which involved some scrambling and a lot of care. For those wanting to make a direct approach on the cave, leave the road at T 07392 93507. A very enjoyable 10km walk , with a tasty pint in the lodge afterwards, excellent first experience of Glenmalure. They were also firing in the neighbouring Glen yesterday. Some bang out of the heavy artillery!

Parked at W05344 63922 (one car - just). Walked back to the gate and straight up the hill for the peak. It's less than 1.5 hours up and back. Views from the top ok, but the nicest view is over the...

An option from the east is to park at R66277 16805 , However there is barely room to park one car here at the roadside. A better option might be to park at R66494 16799 and walk to the start. Fol...

Eskatarriff East Top: Eskatarriff East and a mighty view to the Reeks.

Unsung, Eskatarriff East deserves yet another picture, this time from the south, the Knocknagree area. Serendipitously, part of the Reeks appears in the keyhole between Eskatarriff East Top and...
