Routes to avoid...up Carrauntoohil...
...the Devil's Ladder. Yep, it may be famous, but really it's only popular because it is so convenient/visible and makes those who only head out on our mountains once a year feel like they are getting in a real thrill. Half the country seems to make a beeline for it. Massive erosion. Queues on good weekend days in the summer. Plus it's not even a particularly attractive approach from the Hag's Glen side, the gullies trump it and take one past the hanging valleys under the summit. And even once you get past the crowds and the erosion, it's a really boring slog to the top.
