My top 5
1. Mullaghanattin. It just looks so attractive. It looks almost Alpine. It's the gateway to the Dunkerrons. It is exposed and testing and reaching the top gives a nice feeling of achievement. And even though you can park at the foot at Ballaghbeama and start with a fine scramble, it's one of the less visited peaks as all roads around here lead to the Reeks.
2. The Hag's Tooth. For a sheer adrenaline rush, you can't beat standing at the top. Reaching it, seeing the drop on each side...it's the dolly zoom effect that faced Police Chief Brody on the beach in Jaws, everything just suddenly falls away. It is exposed with a capital E.
3. The Big Gun. Its all about the challenge to get there, one of the finest ridges I've been on.
4. The Faha Ridge. You may have guessed from 2 and 3 that I like exposure and I like a ridge (ooeerr matron). There are 1 or 2 sections here that get the heart thumping. I like that.
5. Was thinking of the Bones. But gonna plump for the two that overlook my house, the ones that started my interest in hillwalking, Peaken and Knockanaguish in the Western Mangerton area. Yeah I know it's two, but they kinda mirror each other and go hand in hand. Wherever I am in South Kerry or West Cork, invariably I scan for a glimpse of them. They are...home... |

simon3 5 days ago. North of the summit and over a road is the 2km long arc of Sallagh Braes, a spectacular semicircle of a valley where the higher ground to the west (left) falls away towards the sea.

Summit Summary Lugnagun: Superb Blessington Lake Views |
Collaborative entry Last edit by: march-fixer 6 days ago. Though not a summit to write home about, it still provides a wonderful grandstand view south out over Blessington Lakes and west to the Hill of Allen. Until recently (2013) pine trees obscure thes... |
