Devil's Coach Road Mourne Mts.
Gernee,
Glad to see you are looking for the best way up and not down the Devil's Coachroad. A few points are worth noting. This is not a crumbling rock strewn climb on the scale of the Devil's Ladder below Carauntoohil in Co. Kerry. While it is steep, loose and crumbly underfoot, it is not a difficult ascent. Unlike the Devil's Ladder you are unlikely to find anyone else climbing ahead of you with the danger of dislodging loose rocks. Indeed you are unlikely to find anyone else on this hill on 9 out of 10 visits. In short the route up is steep, is loose underfoot but is relatively short and straightforward. It is possible to use it as a descent route but this requires a good head for heights and sure footing. Hope you enjoy the experience.
