"View from Montana Guaza to the NE." from simon3 Expand pics
View from Montana Guaza to the NE. (Expand pics)
The SW corner of Tenerife.
Track 1447 shows a walk starting from the touristic Los Cristianos, over high ground, badlands, coastlands, banana lands and ending in a village.
The high point, Montana Guaza, though not high at 428m by Tenerife standards is like so many small prominent summits in ireland in that it has great views such as that over the huge banana plantations to the south, the tourist areas on the SW coast and also to La Gomera, the neighbouring island to the west.
The photo shows the view inland. At first you might think that the rounded shape of the horizon is some sort of wideangle photo distortion. However it really is like this and this sort of view is found from many parts of the whole island. The summit at the top is Mount Teide, 3718m, not only the highest point of Tenerife but the highest point in Spain.
The view also shows on the left skyline, Roque Conde, well worth climbing if you are staying in any of the resorts to its west.
The middle ground ridge to the right has Montana Chijata, 408m, as its highest point.
Look also at the foreground desert flora so characteristic of much of southern Tenerife.

I was near Dingle on Monday and decided to climb Benagh. Benagh is usually by-passed by those heading for Mount Brandon. Benagh is well worth doing on a fine day. Anyway conditions were perfect so...

Keelogyboy Mountain: A cairn of sorts.
paddyhillsbagger 2 weeks ago.
Keelogyboys top is uninspiring bog and peat hags as other walkers have commented. I did come across this curious cairn in the SW corner of the mountain on-route to the SW Top. It's around G770 388...
