Re GPS for recording tracks
I would recommend a conventional outdoor GPS unit. Garmin eTrex perhaps or similar. It needs to have the capability of plugging a usb cable in and you need to get this cable. Often a cable you may have for say, a camera, will do. I recommend Garmin if you are planning to upload your tracks to this site because we have a way of getting data from Garmin devices that is easier than from some other makes.
