Are Irish hillwalkers meek?
A very interesting letter in today's Irish Times by David Herman. He is referring to the rescue of 11 members of a hillwalking club last week near Glenmacanass in Wicklow. They were cut off by rapidly rising river levels, resulting in their rescue by DWMRT and other services. David states that this very hillwalking club had previously offered a substantial amount of money (10,000 euro) for the construction of a footbridge in this area, specifically to aid walkers to get across the river. The National Parks service had turned down this offer, apparently partly because it wasn't in keeping with the preservation of the area. Read the letter here: http://www.irishtimes.com/letters/index.html#1224306804380 David accuses Irish hillwalkers of being meek for accepting this refusal. Are we meek?

Though the road near L88003920 appears unfenced you will encounter a fence very soon after leaving the road. This fence extends along this back road, Bothar na Scrathóg and keeps cattle in typical...
