weather and the mountains
The recent heavy rain which caused some people to be rescued in the mountains was pretty unprecedented and even met eireann were'nt able to give an accurate forecast regarding.

It is pretty easy to be critical after the event but mountain walking/climbing can obviously be a dangerous activity and extreme changes in weather are part of the programme.

Anybody, even well experienced folk can get caught out and this will always be so.

Naturally the more mountain intelligent and prepared individuals will often know how and have the resources to circumvent dangerous hazards such as swollen rivers etc and need not call upon the MR

However some times even they can be unprepared for the conditions which arise.

I've know idea who the people who needed rescue were but perhaps we should be less judgemental.

There's sudden rude awakening for even the very best out there, and at some totally unexpected moment!!

Many congrats and fine considerations however to the MR teams who performed the vital service

Cnoc na Sleá: Not To Be Judged On Size

A small hill, but as it can form part of an extended walk, has some very steep sides, and has some of the best views in the country, it cannot be judged by size alone. I started at the car park at...
