Challenge Walkers: Lidl offer.
I happened to be in my local Lidl and i noticed they were selling heart rate monitors. After years of doing challenge walks up and down Ireland (oh ok, not so many recently) I started listening to those sports professionals that believe that heart rate management is critical. Critical that is to both training and effort management on the day. For the last times that I did the 'Turks I found that a heart rate monitor (cheap chunky plastic variety) really helped eke out the resources. In gyms or outdoor training the monitor is also useful to make sure you really are in the cardio-vascular training zone and not fooling yourself.
Lidl's offer is for "Crivit" heart rate monitors for under 20 euro. It's chunky plastic ok with chest strap and monitor.
