RTE news on car break-ins in tourist/walking
There is a newscast on the RTE website about increased Gardai activities in Wicklow to combat break-ins and theft from cars especially in the upland areas. I know that several MVs have had their cars attacked and items stolen in the Wicklow Mountains and my car had a window smashed near Mahon Falls in Waterford. It has become increasingly worrisome to find somewhere judged safe to leave a car when hill walking in Ireland and particularly to leave a car overnight if camping in the mountains. Let's hope that this Gardai initiative helps to reduce the problem. The newscast is on http://www.rte.ie/news/av/2011/0705/media-2995227.html

Robber's Pass Hill: Minor heathery lump. Overcivilised and underwhelming.

This oddly named hill is more a very minor heathery bump incorporated into the system of tracks laid out by the Wicklow Mountains National Park. It can be reached from any of the western car-parks...
