In praise of wellies...
Further to simon3's comments, I have always used wellies when climbing mountains. I bought a cheap pair from a local shoe shop which have proper boot-style soles and these have safely taken me up and down all the hills I have commented on in MV. They are ideal for boggy ground and seem to cope well on rocky areas too. I certainly wouldn't want to go up the likes of Trostan for example in any other footwear. Some people claim that wellies don't offer enough ankle support but I have never had any problems so far, fingers crossed. As simon3 mentioned those who work in the hills (farmers, forestry workers etc) all seem to use wellies rather than boots and if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me.
