Re Question on GPS use
I would be extremely surprised if any GPS for general use around here did not have Irish Grid. Certainly in all the Garmin devices I have seen, there is a setup page to allow you to display positions in a big variety of grids as well as latitude/ longitude and the UTM - which is a uniform set of grids for everywhere on the planet.

For most hillwalking purposes in Ireland, Irish Grid is by far the most useful since it directly relates to th maps here.
