GPS SMC Contour maps
I recentley downloaded the Contour maps for Ireland from the SMC web site. I then extracted the files. Next I downloaded the "Sendmap20" utility by Stanislaw Kozicki. It makes the job of uploading the contour maps onto the GPS very easy. You just add the required map files to the send map utility and connect to the GPS and you now have definition to your GPS. The nice thing is also that you do not have to upload them all at one go. Select the map files for where ever you wish to go and just upload these. At the moment I have the West of Ireland and Donegal on mine and if I plan to go further afield I can upload these. I am using a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx unit. I was hoping to be able to install map chips, but as we are aware they do not exist for Ireland. The work done by SMC is certainly a good alternative and fairly accurate. I have tested mine on the hills in conjunction with OSI maps and it works well.
