Re BOOKS
perthjim - True enough, there isn't a single book on all the mountain ranges in Ireland as far as I know. Claude Wall's book (see Bibliography) was the only book that made an attempt that I'm aware of. To be useful such a book would need to be authoritative and comprehensive. And that's not easy - there's 38 ranges in MountainViews lists and we don't cover summits under 500m or relative hills yet. People are interested not just in the ranges but also summit descriptions, trip reports and route suggestions. Where is all the data to come from?

So what's to be done? Here in MountainViews we are using the current collaborative spirit of the age enabled by the internet to pull together the information, starting with the summit data you can currently see. We have further plans of course. We hope it will lead to that comprehensive and reasonably authoritative information on all the ranges and isolated peaks with responsive feedback. And yes, maybe a book eventually.

Surprisingly Donegal islands have a very good mobile internet reception, sometimes better than in an office in Dublin.

Now living furth of Scotland and getting to know the Irish hills. If you come across a Scottish hill Walker with dodgy knees and walking sedately, stop and say hello.
