Ireland's Most Difficult Summit?
That's a good question madfrankie. You'd need to swim at Turlough Hill since the highest point is a tower in the middle of a man made reservoir! If we include some of the relative hills (not necessarily that high but having say 150m drop from the summit) then there would be more swimming to a number of islands like Tearaght or Puffin. While there's no mountaineering as hard as the In Pinn (on Skye) which requires a rock climb, it's certainly not easy to climb our 1Ks (Carrauntoohil, Caher and Beenkeeragh) in a high wind. And there's a few summits where it is not easy to be sure you are on the summit such as the wooded Slieve Maan. Still, the ones you mention are awkward all right though I haven't done Nephin. Anyone else any nominations?
