It is difficult to recommend a GPS without knowing if you wish to display Ordnance Survey of Ireland (OSI) maps in the GPS or not. If you want to display OSI maps then the Garmin Colorado, Dakota or Oregon series will do this (plus you will have to buy the digital maps). The Satmap Active 10 can also display OSI maps. If you don't need to show an OSI map background then most recent Garmin units would be fine. I have just brought a Garmin 60CSX which has good battery life and is readable in sunlight. There are some vector maps available for Ireland which show main roads, contours and summits, one source is http://emerald-island.eu/wikka/GpsMap

For buying paper maps of Ireland on-line then these can be brought from the OSI at www.irishmaps.ie
