Walking suggestions, help please
Hello. My wife comes from the north and so I have enjoyed many happy times in the Mournes, alone, with family and in some of the walking festivals (which if you haven't tried them I can recommend - with a hearty breakfast at Castlewellan of course).
Anyway, we are going to be in our campervan at Donard, to the west of the Wicklow mountains soon. Looking on MountainViews, I was a bit concerned to see that some of the routes near there are a bit churned up by quad bikes and so on.
So, I'd really appreciate suggestions from anyone for good walks in that area (I'm fit, experienced, with good gear) with good aesthetic appeal too please.
After Donard we're heading north west (not as far as Donegal) so any suggestions over that way would be much appreciated.
Then we'll be across to the Mournes - yes I can't stay away. A favourite approach is up via Hares Gap then, as the mood takes, left, right or straight ahead (though I'm not a fan of the bog of Donard!) to then loop round to the woods above Annalong and a pint or two in the Harbour Bar to round things off.

Topped Mountain: Short & simple

A simple little Minion to climb (the name Topped 'Mountain' is a bit of a stretch). A gravel path & steps from a carpark will see you reach the top in about 15 minutes, and you won't even need you...

Crockmulroney: Good summit for Carn-baggers

A fine hill with a well defined summit and great views. Plenty of parking spots along the R254 directly to the south of the summit. From there it's a relatively simple 1km climb to the top.
