lunch spot
Having had a sandwich and water or coffee in many a sheltered spot on the Wicklow and Mourne Mountains, with the wind howling through the heather, rain beating against my waterproofs, the vistas hidden in the clouds..... Well, this photo is the Aletsch Glacier, (you can see the crevasses in lower left) and after an hour's hike over the snow and ice, I found a good spot to put down my fleece, knelt in the snow and had this for a view, I wondered at the time why my usual ham salad sandwich and fruit juice tasted so well up here at 3454 metres, but it must have been the view! Watching the kites fly overhead, and the odd walker, I did find it difficult to tear myself away. A bit different to the Mournes and Wicklows but accessible to any regular hill walker! photo taken 11th june '05

Robber's Pass Hill: Minor heathery lump. Overcivilised and underwhelming.
Collaborative entry Last edit by: simon3 2 days ago.
This oddly named hill is more a very minor heathery bump incorporated into the system of tracks laid out by the Wicklow Mountains National Park. It can be reached from any of the western car-parks...

Croaghmoyle: Easy walk up to great views

Low lying cloud/mist/fog discouraged me from putting the effort into going up Nephin today. On the way home I parked at the start of the Croaghmoyle service road and followed it past a wind turbin...
