FOX'S PAWS
Salve vulpes. Cnoc Broinne is "Breast Hill." Indeed it could be "Womb Hill" but it isn't because it is to do with context and if we can't find a thousand other references to hills as breasts and can find any with references to wombs, I shall eat my underpants. To Stumpa na tSaimh, why would it be stump of tranquility? I am not writing that it is not but why would it be? Places in our Celtic nations are/were named after events, trade, activities, descriptions and people: Island of the Bull, Hill of the Pig, Ford of the Vikings, Promontory of the Gaels, Brendan's Hill, Patrick's Hill. They had no time to waste on tranquility and the like when the chickens had to be fed and another child was on the way. You are right: it is open to some interpretation but I think ox will beat tranquility by a haunch or two unless of course you are thinking of eating tranquility for supper. Sorrel cannot be excluded - why would "the little pinnacle where the sorrel grows" be daft? Be patient foxy-face and the magic of words will reveal themselves to you over the years. The many, long, wonderful years.

Robber's Pass Hill: Minor heathery lump. Overcivilised and underwhelming.
Collaborative entry Last edit by: simon3 6 days ago.
This oddly named hill is more a very minor heathery bump incorporated into the system of tracks laid out by the Wicklow Mountains National Park. It can be reached from any of the western car-parks...

Croaghmoyle: Easy walk up to great views
