Wild Camping
Looking to walk a section of the Wicklow Way from Knockree to Glendalough with an overnight camp somewhere around Ballinafunshoge Mountain: I am not familiar with this area so would appreciate suggestions as to the likelihood of finding a (peaceful) camp spot. On the OS map there is trail that leads off the WW, skirting the summit bulge of Ballinfunshoge west down to the Cloghoge River and Lough Dan - is this likely to be any better ?

We are experienced (but rusty) walkers and wilderness campers and quite happy to deviate from the WW to gain a decent isolated camp spot. Also not sure if this is actually coillte land or national park and does it make a difference for camping (not planning on a fire - we have a stove) ?

Thanks

Westaston Hill: The top?
Barry 13 hours ago.
I think the highest point is likely about 175 metres in a WSW direction from the mast. I'm judging this from aerial photography and DTM which shows a rocky outcrop in a small forest clearing. DTM ...

Barranisky: Barniskea or Barniskey

Might be worth adding that Ballymoyle Hill might be more appropriate name for this height. Called that in Coillte records. Whilst Barranisky is spelt thus on OS six inch maps, note that Hall Nevil...

Aidan thanks. Good to hear from you. There's a kind of accuracy in your translation even although there isn't. Still, it's close and ants aren't.There are essentially 3 titles for hills in Irish.S...
