Red Sea mystery
Being from the area I thought I might be able to shed some light on the Red Sea name. It is also known locally as the 'Red Bog' due to the heather having an orangey-red appearance (see photo). The sea part refers to the bog being a wet 'sea' lying in between the drier summits of Carncormick and Mid Hill. The route from Carncormick to Collin Top via Mid Hill and the Red Sea is a fantastic walk and has much more of an isolated feel than the much more popular Glenariff forest nearby. I've certainly never met any other walkers on this route.
