Donard Walk August
The Scavenger Walk, c’est a dire de Cra and Jackill, as noted within Dhmiriam’s recent and completely wonderful pieces on our lovely Mournes: her breathless enthusiasm is most encouraging and her assessment of these magical hills entirely accurate although that of the Slieve Donard Hotel is quite beyond my ken and even further beyond my Bank Manager’s (should I have such an awful thing). We are starting to get some desultory interest from the North – some press ganged albeit and perhaps some leadership assistance from Mournes big boys. Yes girls – Happy Days. It would be good however if an mviewer or two in the good ol’ ROI could shepherd a handful of mates/family/victims into the arena. Just to revisit the gig – two regular mvs contributors, Jackill and I are doing a Slieve Donard run – first weekend in August – accurate details as yet to be …. detailed. Interested parties contact me on douglasreid@utvinternet.com. Anyone trying to sell walking poles to this email address will be tracked down and disabused of such a notion. Dhmiriam, I should encourage you and/or whatever makes up the “we” described in your last contribution to attend – and everyone else reading these words.

Fantastic walk, personally feel it's best starting your approach from Glenbeigh village and heading up through the forest as it's quite well signposted. Once leaving the cover of the trees, we wer...

An easy to access and navigate hill, well worth it for its central position and views in every direction. Park as previously suggested at L8530 4820 and head north east before swinging north. The ...

Though the road near L88003920 appears unfenced you will encounter a fence very soon after leaving the road. This fence extends along this back road, Bothar na Scrathóg and keeps cattle in typical...

Pleasantly surprised by this, could clearly see Lugnaquilla and Croaghanmoira, as well as numerous other summits, slightly awkward entry into the fields just west of the forest which don't appear ...

Found this easy to bag using the tracks via Sleamaine marked on "east-west mapping" map, including the forest ride. Track uploaded for anyone with an interest but given recent tree felling on the ...
