Dublin Camera Club and the Irish Ramblers Club is organising a seminar
on landscape photography in the mountains
This will be held in two parts
Seminar:
Venue: Dublin Camera Club premises in Camden Street, Dublin
Date: 22nd April 2006, 10 am registration for 10:30
start. End about 13:30
Contents: Objectives and Introduction
Overview of equipment
Cameras, lenses, tripods, filters, camera bags,
miscellaneous, suitable walking kit
Overview of basic photographic techniques
This will involve a general overview on f-stops, shutter
speeds, ISO speeds (film/digital), colour or monochrome,
camera shake, depth of field, using tripods, etc
Obviously not a full course in the time available.
Landscape Photography
Conditions in Ireland and other temperate regions, before
you go out/research/routes/times
Sources of information about Ireland such as maps,
simulations and MountainViews.ie
Sharing experience
Lighting, composition and people in the landscape.
Digital Post Production
Two groups one basic using free tools, the other
intermediate using Photoshop.
Both groups will consider operations such as cropping,
contrast and colour correction and sharpening. With
uses of photography from prints, slideshows and uploading to
websites. There will be some worked examples.
The intermediate group will also consider further topics
depending on demand such as applications of
layers, selections, corrections for atmospheric conditions
and values in landscape and mountain photography.
Summer Challenge
Introduction to the Summer Challenge - a competition in
several categories.
Q&A/ further reading/ tour of premises etc.

Walk:
Venue: Dublin or Wicklow Mountains
Date: 23rd April
Meeting: Stillorgan Car Park 10:30, near
McDonalds, for car pooling.
Duration: Around 6 hours approx.
This walk is being organised by the Irish Ramblers Club.

This will be a walk in an area with a good photographic
variety such as woods, lakes, valley views, summit views,
distance views, people in the landscape. The
group will put into practice techniques discussed the day
before with the aid of various instructors. The
programme may vary depending, as always, on light and
weather.

Cost
The seminar and walk are free. A charge of Euro 10
is required at time of booking to cover expenses.
Booking
The course comprising a seminar and a walk is given by volunteers and is
free. Please post a cheque for Euro10 for expenses, payable to
Dublin Camera Club, to Siobhan Purcell, 80 Marlborough Road, Dublin 4, on or
before 14 April. This payment is non-refundable. Booking is limited to a
fixed number of places on a first come first served basis. Booking enquiries by

For the walk, which will be run by the Irish Ramblers Club, participants need to bring the usual hiking gear: waterproof coat,
waterproof trousers, hiking boots, hat, packed lunch, rucksack, protection for
equipment and plenty to drink. Entry to the walk is at the discretion of the
Irish Ramblers Club and may be refused to people not properly equipped.
